More Than Friends is a Latino/Caribbean/American Initiative that seeks to
strengthen family life and structure through programs that promote health
awareness, quality education, community involvement, and economic
empowerment. |

Caring &
Sharing Baskets |

|
In keeping with our
mission to promote good health, we give Caring and Sharing baskets to cancer
patients undergoing chemotherapy and radiation, and we have created a fund
to serve the specific needs of un-insured and under-insured cancer
survivors. |

|
|
Book Fest |
 |
|
We promote quality
education by hosting our annual book fest called, “Winners Practice in the
Off-Season” every summer at Third Ward Park in Passaic.
Our goal is to reach
100 children. Every child receives a book, writing pads, pens, pencils, and
any materials that can make this event significant in a child’s
developmental journey.
The event includes
reading to children, making crafts, face painting, etc. It’s an enrichment
activity for children, grades Pre-k to Fourth Grade, as well as a reminder
to continue reading throughout the summer.
The New Jersey State Tests-
Assessments of Skills and Knowledge (NJASK 3&4) are given in the Third and
Fourth Grades, and we want to help families become aware that they have to
prepare their young children for these assessments.
More Than Friends
wants to make sure that “NO CHILD IS LEFT BEHIND” if given the opportunity
and the necessary resources. |

Celebration of Life
Dinner Dance |
 |
|
We encourage everyone to
celebrate life with us at our Annual Celebration of Life Dinner Dance which
we celebrate annually on the second Saturday in the month of November.
During the dance we
honor community members for their service and contributions to health,
education and social welfare programs.
All proceeds from
the dance benefit cancer survivors by helping them create a positive
attitude and a fighting spirit to emerge victorious as they conquer this
disease. |

Tea Party |
|
Our Annual Tea Party takes
place every spring. More Than Friends is proud to host a gathering where
women and guests of all ages get together for an afternoon filled with
information regarding women empowerment and nurturing, health, beauty, and
fashion. A fun- filled Tricky Tray is also enjoyed by all.

Relay for Life and
Making Strides |
 |
|
Teaming up
with The American Cancer Society, More Than Friends takes part in
these community gatherings where everyone can participate in the fight
against cancer.
Teams get together and share several hours taking turns
walking or running around a track/path. All monies raised go to the ACS to
help prevent cancer, save lives, and diminish suffering from the disease. |
